Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I get Solar Screens instead of window film or awnings?
According to studies,
Solar Screens offer three times the heat blockage compared to
window films. Solar Screens do this by blocking the heat
before it ever reaches the window. Top 10 reasons NOT to install window
tint or window film
.
2. Will Solar Screens block my view?
Solar Screens are great for allowing outward daytime visibility, while at the same time blocking outsiders from looking in. Solar Screen 80% allows the best outward visibility.
3. Will Solar Screens darken the rooms?
Solar Screens still allow plenty of light to come in. The light that passes through is softer on your eyes and does an excellent job reducing the glare on your television screen. Household plants do well with 80% Solar Screen material.
90% may noticeably darken rooms, but if you have a glare problem 90% may be the fix.
4. How much will Solar Screens save on my electric bill?
Solar screens can also reduce the overall "load" of an air conditioning system up to 60%...lowering interior temperatures 10 to 15 degrees, and SAVING YOU MONEY on utility bills immediately! Added savings are realized in longer lasting equipment, requiring less maintenance due to the decreased work load.
5. Should I take my solar screens off in winter?
No, some people think they will get more benefits from passive solar heating with the solar screen off in the winter months. However, there are less daytime hours in the winter season, it is also usually more overcast, limiting your chances of passive solar heating. Solar screens also create somewhat of a barrier, keeping the cold winter winds off your glass, similar to a storm window, therefore, keeping the temperature of the glass warmer. The warmer you keep the glass, the less convection heat you need.
6. Are your custom Solar Screens any different than parts hardware stores carry?
Yes, in many ways. For one thing, sizes are very limited in those "Do it Yourself Kits" and the aluminum frame material is also much thinner. At North Texas Solar Screens we carry only the best PHIFER SunTex® solar screen material. You also need the right tools to create a screen that will last. Our screens are professionally factory manufactured and installed to a nice fit for a quality finished product.
7. Can I still open my windows?
Yes, properly installed Solar Screens do not interfere with the window operation and there is little restriction in airflow as well. You can still enjoy those cool breezy days while still protecting your interior against pests and insects.

Absolutely, Solar Screens will drastically reduce the damaging UV rays from entering your home and ruining your furniture, fabrics, draperies, carpet and wood floors. We carry only the best PHIFER SunTex® solar screen material that blocks up to 90% of those harmful UV rays.
